Knitting Olympics

The Yarn Harlot has organized the Winter Knitting Olympics - you have to cast on during the opening ceremonies and finish by the time the torch goes out 16 days later.  I couldn't resist and have joined the US team.  Since I work full time and only have my evenings free, I decided I wouldn't be able to aim for the gold medal and have set my sights on something smaller: the Trellis toddler sweater.   The yarn has been ordered, I've got my needles ready.   Let's go, USA Cable Team! - S

Ponchomania

Today I caught the second episode of Martha Stewart's new live television show.  Her entire audience was wearing ponchos like the one her fellow inmate crocheted for her, and she had Lily Chin (the fastest crocheter in the world) on as a guest.  I have never seen someone's hands move so fast - Chin mentioned that she greased her needles with hand lotion!  I felt the onset of carpal tunnel syndrome just from watching her.

Now, I would normally not be caught dead wearing a poncho, but this was a pretty cute pattern and they do look easy to make.  Martha is selling them on her website with the proceeds going to charity.   But if you want to make one yourself, Lion Brand Yarn is offering a free pattern for this design ("Coming Home").  I may have to make one for M.'s adorable daughter, who would surely look cuter in it than I would.
